The night after surgery.. all smiles with the help of a little morphine.. :)


She pulled her pulse ox off about 50 times.. setting off the monitors everytime.. it was her favorite thing to do.

HORRAY for no tape on the face!! I am so glad you went for it and she is now tube free. Bela looks so happy!

I can't wait for the day that Owen will be free of tubes. Oxygen, NG...

Also... the last pictures of Bela amazed me! She's standing up really well!!! :)

I seriously need to call you... I"m frustrated about DDD, PT, AZLTC...argh.

I had chills as I looked as these photos of Bela - she is just an absolutely amazing little girl. She looks so happy and like she is really thriving - I need to make a trip down there soon to meet this precious little angel. I am so excited for her to be tube free, she looks so happy.

YAY BELA!!! NO TAPE...She is ADORABLE Avery...I am so glad she did so well and she is looking fabulous. I brought in a picture to the H&L office of the 4 of us, I think I sent it to you, and they hung it up on the board. They were so thrilled to see the girls together.
Are you going to the park on Saturday? I just found out about it but I will be there with a friend of mine and all of the kids. I would LOVE to see you guys again without all the hasle of a birthday involved.
We still need to get the girls together, I bet they would start to have a good time together.
Yay to Bela standing up...I can't believe how big they are getting, it makes me sad yet so happy they have come so far.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures.
I stopped in on the floor today and saw the Tams, Addie is getting huge. I just am amazed at our girls. They are fighters, truly they are.

Ok I am loving this post.
1- I am dying at the picture of Bela in her purple dress sitting on the countertop. Seriously, could she get any cuter?
2- I love her gold sandals. Savannah has the same ones. So "diva", right?
3- She has so many TEETH!!
4- Her little cheeks look so good now. you all must be so much happier! Glad the decision has been made and the surgery is over and done with. Here's to a few months of smooth sailing...

So seeing her face makes we want to get the button! As the parent you don't notice the tube, but seeing her face tube free... THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE. She is is so stinkin cute and happy!! and no tube- that's the best part.

Avery, I read your blog some time ago (and somehow I found a link to you through a friend of mine's son's carepages (he is struggling with a leukodystrophy, not heart issues, not sure how I got to you but that was the way). AT ANY RATE, I haven't read your blog in at least a few months, but you and Bela came into my mind today and I searched the web and found you. And I am just so, so, SO SO SO happy for you and your lovely family! :> Bela is a beautiful girl. She looks so much like you in these photos. What a blessing she is. (I too had a son first, and then a daughter, and there is really nothing on earth like that first girl, is there?) I love her gorgeous eyes, her darling clothes, her fabulous smart expressions, every little thing. And Avery, I admire you so much. Early in the morning on October 23rd, Tanner got a phone call that his sister, Julie, just a year and half older than him, had passed away. My sweet mother in law had to receive this devastating news from Bela's hospital room. Although Bela was unaware of all of it, at the same time they were helping my mother in law just outside her room in the hall, Bela's heart rate shot up to 180 and her rhythm went crazy for about 3 hours until they finally got it under control. 3 weeks out and doing great!

Bela has been doing pretty darn good. I'm amazed by her.. as usual. She dosn't want to be held back any longer! She begs me to go to the park, got to the store, get back to anything normal. We're taking it slow, but she's been out to the park a couple times when it's been not too busy and she's so happy to be sitting in the sand with her shovel in hand. Sometimes it's like she didn't skip a beat. She has times still though where she seems tired, or grumpy, or like something bothers her but she just can't quite tell what it is. But overall, oh my gosh! 3 weeks post-op and she's a rockstar! I'm just so darn proud of her, for doing something so hard and for coming out of it so well. She tells everyone that she just got her heart fixed and sometimes even shows them. I'm never quite sure how to react when she pulls her shirt right up. It's like she's actually almost proud of it, as she should be, but I cannot understand how...

First transplant post

This space used to be very healing for me. I wish I never would've stopped documenting here...I love knowing the first 5 or so years of Bela's life were well documented. But as I sit here with the familiar view of her hospital bed and sounds of beeping monitors, it feels almost necessary for me to write here again. Bela has had 12 incredible years of living life since my last post on here.  We were getting really comfortable with our cardiology appointments every 4-6 months, endocrinology every 3-4,  bloodwork every couple months, and occasional MRIs, procedures, or trips to the cath lab. Life has been full and so good. She's traveled a ton, ate a lot of good food, hung with friends, participated in theater, and found so much joy in her simple but rich life. We also had two more kids in that time.. more chaos and more love.  I don't know if anyone will still look for and find this blog looking for hope for HLHS, but I hope so.  We've now been inpatient listed for he...
