Baby Mine



Track number 1 on the cd that is almost always in Bela's CD player is Baby Mine, by Alison Krauss. Jenna, Lily's mom, made us the CD during Bela's second surgery. Every song on that CD does something to me when I hear them. They stir many memories for me. I sing Baby Mine to her every night as I rock her before she goes to bed. She snuggles right up to me, it is my most favorite moment of the day. Tonight was particularly tender for me as I thought about little Lily, born the same day as Bela, in a hopsital bed recovering from her 4th open heart surgery. It is amazing really, that someone so little can endure so much. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her mommy tonight.

I am extremeley grateful tonight for how blessed we've been. Bela's health has been amazing lately considering all that is against her. Sometimes it's so easy to want to believe that it's all not real, that she is a whole and healthy little girl.

When you've imagined life without your baby girl, EVERYTHING, every moment, every tear, every word, every laugh, every second is precious.

I am dying over that picture of Bens and Bela on the stool!!!! That is got to be the cutest thing! Just so you know, I accredit little Bela for helping me appreciate all 'the little' things about kids that can sometimes overwhelm me as a Mom, but then that's what it's REALLY all about, those moments, those times you can't get back and we get to be the Mom there to witness it all! She made me a better Mom....and of course her Mommy's amazing example never hurt! ;)

Hey Avery, Bela looks so wonderful. She is getting so big, I love her hair! As with you I love the moments when I can just hold Lily and sing to her and rock her. The moments when she actually acts like she is a 23 month old baby instead of the 40 year old that I swear is trapped in her body. I have thought about Bela and you all day, we are in your old room, the room B was in when she was just an itty bitty baby. I have told Lily all about her. It has seemed telling her stories calms her down, and it also seems she enjoys her stories about her heart friends most! Thank you truly for all of your prayers today. She is doing very well tonight. Give Bela some snuggles for me, seeing I can't do so with Lily right now.

there is such an amazingly sweet spirit about your family. you are all so beautiful and kind to each other and seem like the picture perfect family. little bela is an angel and so adorable. i love her pig tails. i'm so glad she is doing so well. i totally understand the music bringing on nostalgia. grace has had the same CD since she was born as well. baby mine is on there too. :)

3 weeks out and doing great!

Bela has been doing pretty darn good. I'm amazed by her.. as usual. She dosn't want to be held back any longer! She begs me to go to the park, got to the store, get back to anything normal. We're taking it slow, but she's been out to the park a couple times when it's been not too busy and she's so happy to be sitting in the sand with her shovel in hand. Sometimes it's like she didn't skip a beat. She has times still though where she seems tired, or grumpy, or like something bothers her but she just can't quite tell what it is. But overall, oh my gosh! 3 weeks post-op and she's a rockstar! I'm just so darn proud of her, for doing something so hard and for coming out of it so well. She tells everyone that she just got her heart fixed and sometimes even shows them. I'm never quite sure how to react when she pulls her shirt right up. It's like she's actually almost proud of it, as she should be, but I cannot understand how...

First transplant post

This space used to be very healing for me. I wish I never would've stopped documenting here...I love knowing the first 5 or so years of Bela's life were well documented. But as I sit here with the familiar view of her hospital bed and sounds of beeping monitors, it feels almost necessary for me to write here again. Bela has had 12 incredible years of living life since my last post on here.  We were getting really comfortable with our cardiology appointments every 4-6 months, endocrinology every 3-4,  bloodwork every couple months, and occasional MRIs, procedures, or trips to the cath lab. Life has been full and so good. She's traveled a ton, ate a lot of good food, hung with friends, participated in theater, and found so much joy in her simple but rich life. We also had two more kids in that time.. more chaos and more love.  I don't know if anyone will still look for and find this blog looking for hope for HLHS, but I hope so.  We've now been inpatient listed for he...
