Tomorrow?

We are possibly being discharged tomorrow. Every room on the floor right now is full and Bela's problems aren't as big as some others so we're being sent packing. (I took that as a very GOOD compliment when they told me that today.) We were going to stay a little longer to make sure she's doing okay eating and gaining, but they said we'll have to work those out at home. Darn. (that was sarcastic). I'm really ready to get home. I miss spending time with Tanner and Benson...this whole hopstial stuff is extremley draining in so many ways.
Bela's infection is completley gone and her incision is already healing up nicely. She seems to be happier and more content. She's been eating pretty good here so I hope that continues. We've started to give her a continuous NG feeding throughout the night and she's doing great keeping it down. She's given enough to keep her full through the night so I don't even have to get up! I have to say it's been quite a nice change. She sleeps for the most part all night long. So this time we'll be coming home with a couple new additions on her...her NG tube down her nose, and her broviac in her leg that we will be adminitering her antibiotic through. Hopefully both things will be gone in about 2-3 months. We're just sooo grateful that she is healing again so well and seems to be recovering from another surgery with no complications! We sure hope to not see this place again for another 4 months or so..

I am so happy for you to be able to go home - being in the hospital is aweful and VERY draining - but you have done an amazing job!!I hope Bela continues to heal great and that you won't have to see the inside of a hospital for many months :0)

Yay for going home! I have been following your story for a few weeks now. I linked your blog from baby Gracie's blog. A friend of a friend gave me her link. Anyway, I just wanted to comment because I also noticed that your blog is on Dana and Ryan's blog. (I just found their blog a few days ago after they had Kate.) Dana is my cousin. Avery - Great news! I am still out of town but had the chance to check on Bela's progress. I am so happy to see that once again she is fighting her way back. Take care and I'll talk to you when I return to Arizona. Love ya!

Early in the morning on October 23rd, Tanner got a phone call that his sister, Julie, just a year and half older than him, had passed away. My sweet mother in law had to receive this devastating news from Bela's hospital room. 3 weeks out and doing great!

Bela has been doing pretty darn good. I'm amazed by her.. as usual. She dosn't want to be held back any longer! She begs me to go to the park, got to the store, get back to anything normal. We're taking it slow, but she's been out to the park a couple times when it's been not too busy and she's so happy to be sitting in the sand with her shovel in hand. Sometimes it's like she didn't skip a beat. She has times still though where she seems tired, or grumpy, or like something bothers her but she just can't quite tell what it is. But overall, oh my gosh! 3 weeks post-op and she's a rockstar! I'm just so darn proud of her, for doing something so hard and for coming out of it so well. She tells everyone that she just got her heart fixed and sometimes even shows them. I'm never quite sure how to react when she pulls her shirt right up. It's like she's actually almost proud of it, as she should be, but I cannot understand how...

First transplant post

This space used to be very healing for me. I wish I never would've stopped documenting here...I love knowing the first 5 or so years of Bela's life were well documented. But as I sit here with the familiar view of her hospital bed and sounds of beeping monitors, it feels almost necessary for me to write here again. Bela has had 12 incredible years of living life since my last post on here.  We were getting really comfortable with our cardiology appointments every 4-6 months, endocrinology every 3-4,  bloodwork every couple months, and occasional MRIs, procedures, or trips to the cath lab. Life has been full and so good. She's traveled a ton, ate a lot of good food, hung with friends, participated in theater, and found so much joy in her simple but rich life. We also had two more kids in that time.. more chaos and more love.  I don't know if anyone will still look for and find this blog looking for hope for HLHS, but I hope so.  We've now been inpatient listed for he...
